A time to return home

18th July
Mountains around Leh airportEven though we got up on time, it was just strange. Our feet were heavy and hands were slow as we made our preparations to leave for the airport. Our pickup van was right on time, and uncle Mr. Tsering (owner of the guest house) and Zombie (Sunil, housekeeper at guest house) helped us with the luggage. Sitting in the van, there was only one thought running through our mind, “why the hell are we leaving?” Maggi was the first to break the silence and cry, “I don’t want to go home, let’s stay here only”.

All we could do was just chuckle and murmur, “yeh, I wish”.

It’s really amazing, how you make bonds with certain places and people. Who would have thought that a land of dull rocky mountains would make you fall in love with it. But as it is said, there is more than meets the eye, and it’s true about Ladakh. Like I said in the start of this series, this is the land with the soul and you feel it at least once, no matter what you come here for.

I could write more about how painful and dull, the next few hours were from Leh to Delhi and Delhi to Mumbai (except couple of nice air-hostesses, but that doesn’t count), how long and boring the security checks were at Leh Airport, how hot it was and how lousy the baggage checks and queue managements were at Delhi airport, how even more hot and humid and polluted it was at Mumbai. But you catch my drift here and I’ll spare you the details. Maybe we were being picky but everything just felt wrong, wrong and all the more wrong coming back. When you experience heaven, coming back to reality is kind of hard, too hard if you’re from Mumbai.

As I entered home, I took a cold shower and lied down, but I couldn’t sleep. I was tired and bored to hell from the journey, but more than that I was upset with the same thought that had been hammering my head since last night, “Why? Why the fuck on earth I’m back here?”
